Various diseases especially cancer, heart diseases and
diabetes are on rise worldwide. All medical systems are rather engaged in treating
the cases, than preventing them. On the other hand the changing lifestyle, food
habits, addictions, pollution and psychological factors are the main reasons for
creation of diseases. These are very much neglected in medical practices today.
The motto behind this movement is to create awareness among the people for their
health status and suggest ways to improve the lifestyle for better health and prevention
of diseases through
Ayurvedic Holistic Management. |

As a medical
Practitioner, we often come across recurrence of disease, especially in case of
cancer. When the conventional treatment is over, the patient is said to be in a
disease free state. No body knows, whether this is a cure or just a disease free
interval. The investigations are carried out periodically and if recurrence or metastasis
is noted, one reveals that, it was just a disease free interval. Again the conventional
treatment like chemotherapy, radiation etc. is administered. But now prognosis is
not at all good. Many a times it is a palliative treatment and not curative.

The same thing
applies again to cardiac diseases. Even after a bypass surgery, the symptoms reappear
again! Investigations are carried out and again bypass surgery is advised and is
carried out as well. Is it possible to avoid the recurrence, that is prevention
of a disease? Ayurveda has a very different approach going to the root cause of
any disease. In practice if we are driving a vehicle and we want to stop it, the
first thing required to be done, is to bring the acceleration to zero, changing
to lower gear and finally using the break. The same principle is applicable over
here. Unless and until we stop the accelerating factors or generating factors may
be in the form of improper food, improper behavior, addiction, and psychological
factors as stress etc. for the disease, how come we are going to prevent the secondary
onset of disease? The same thing is true even for primary prevention. If a lifestyle
is assessed properly, one is able to find out health status and in certain cases
proneness to diseases e.g. if there is heredity of diabetes, the life style is sedentary,
there is a lot of stress and addictions like smoking, the person is prone to diabetes
or even to heart diseases and it is always better to take care and try to prevent
the onset of disease. The same principle is applicable for cancer and other diseases
as well.

Ayurveda besides
understanding various causative factors shows a way to revert the situation. Basically
there are two factors, in the form of body elements, responsible in generation of
disease
1. Doshas (One which gets vitiated & vitiates others)
2. Dooshyas (On which gets vitiated by dosha)
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
The imbalance of doshas due to various causative factors like improper diet etc.
lead to diseases & hence elimination of the excessive doshas through Panchakarama
is a treatment. It has preventive as well as curative role. The second factor, the
dooshyas, are the body tissues in the form of Dhatu and Malas. They need to be strengthened
for prevention of diseases. Rasayana treatment is a specialty of Ayurveda creating
immunity in the dooshyas to prevent the diseases. |

India is going to lead the universe in number of diabetes patients by 2025. The
whole world is at the risk of spread of this disease. Diabetes has many complications
such as nephropathy (leading to kidney failure), retinopathy (leading to retinal
hemorrhage and blindness) etc. and many families have a strong heredity of diabetes.
We can work at least for prevention of various complications in diabetes and even
for prohibition of onset of diabetes in prone individuals.
