The Need |
|
|
|
Today education has been commercialized & Vidya has been made
saleable. It was never a situation in Indian Culture. Vidya was being taught free
of cost at Gurukuls. The Acharyas were very much respected. Gurus
use to perform the duty of creating a national attitude leading to building of a
nation. But the situation has totally changed today. Even thee ancient Indian Sciences
like Ayurveda have lost the traditional mode of learning in the process of modernization.
|
|
|
|
On the other hand serious health problems in the form of acute & chronic
diseases are threatening the whole community at a global level. Ayurveda has a capacity
to meet these challenges. What we need is the deeper study of the basic texts of
Ayurveda & its practical application. This requires teamwork of dedicated people.
To create such a team of Vaidyas is the need of the hour. Vaidya Madhava
Kolhatkar, a visionary, and the person who conceived idea of Triskandha Kosha, inspired
us for study in Ayurveda & hence the Gurukula is named as Shree Madhavacharya

Gurukula System in Present Scenario |
|
|
|
Today's educational system is not at all suitable to Ayurveda. On the contrary it
is harmful to Ayurveda. Students get admitted to Ayurvedic course (BAMS) after completion
of 12th Science. They are thus brought up in totally modern educational system without
any knowledge about ancient educational system or ancient Indian sciences like Ayurveda,
Yoga etc. The glamour of medical field, the respect to the medical profession in
the society, good financial returns were the motivations behind the admission to
medical courses. Even today the situation hasn't changed & the same are the
reasons for admission. But due to progression (?) of fields like Engineering, IT,
there is some regression in the field of medical education. Moreover students get
admitted to Ayurveda because they get little less percentage to qualify them for
MBBS. As an alternative they get admitted to Ayurvedic course. It is very well observed
that, even after completion of BAMS or MD or even PhD, the students remain blank
about Ayurveda. There are various reasons
for this. Ignorance about Ayurveda & Indian sciences right from school level,
admission to Ayurveda as an alternative, examination focused teaching for Ayurvedic
courses & employment oriented teaching staff are the main reasons. As a result
the student remains blank or even curses Ayurveda. In order to change the situation,
rigorous efforts are required to change the whole education system. In a march towards
achieving this, educating the BAMS graduates & making them aware about ancient
education system & showing a way to understand Ayurveda is the first step. The
students after completion of 1st & 2nd year BAMS will follow this path. Efforts
will be made to make students aware of Ancient Indian sciences & mode of learning
after completion of 10th & 12th standard. This is a golden mean of ancient &
modern educational systems. |

The Course |
|
|
|
After BAMS there will be a three tier educational system. The first level will
be for creating good Ayurvedic practitioners. The second level will have emphasis
on teaching & learning of preparation of Ayurvedic medicines, besides practice.
The third level will emphasize on research besides practice. The course will also
emphasize on practical aspect. Reading of basic texts, their commentaries, their
explanations and memorization will also be part of the course. Ideal Ayurvedic
Dinacharya will be observed during the course. Discussions, lectures,
medical camps, excursions will also be a part of the course. |
